San Diego Lights Up the Night
The San Diego County Administration Center building in downtown San Diego was illuminated in lime green for mental health awareness.
California Assemblymembers Support SCR 127
Earlier this month, the California Senate approved a resolution by Senator Jim Beall recognizing May as Mental Health Awareness Month. On May 17, the Assembly followed with a unanimous vote to dedicate the month of May to mental health awareness. Almost 70 Assembly members wore lime green to show their support for the resolution.

Sacramento Native American Health Center
The Sacramento Native American Health Center showed us how easy it is to encourage others to speak up for mental health by hosting a ribbon wall activity in their lobby.

Hope and Wellness BBQ and Fair
The Humboldt County DHHS Hope Center hosted a BBQ in Eureka on May 18 for Mental Health Matters Month. Over 300 people gathered to celebrate and show their support for mental health awareness. They even earned a spot in the local paper!
Lime Green Pledges
Employees of WestCare California, Inc. shared their pledges to end mental health stigma.
Directing Change Award Ceremony
On May 22, we celebrated the talented young filmmakers who channeled their creativity to support suicide prevention and end stigma through film. Over 1,000 students gathered at The Theater at Ace Hotel in Los Angeles, Calif. for the Directing Change Award Ceremony. Cheering on the student filmmakers were celebrity guests including CW’s “Riverdale” stars Mädchen Amick and Hart Denton, Eric Bigger from ABC’s Bachelorette season 13 and “Bigger Talks” podcast host, and CeCe Valencia, on-air radio personality with Power 106.
Mental Health Matters Day
May 23 was the annual Mental Health Matters Day event at the Capitol in Sacramento. Mental health advocates and supporters gathered to share resources, inspire others and celebrate the accomplishments of the mental health movement. Speakers included Darryl “DMC” McDaniels; Senator Jim Beall; Nadia Ghaffari, founder of the nonprofit TeenzTalk; and Paul Gilmartin, host of the podcast “The Mental Illness Happy Hour.”
