UC Riverside Event Helps Put Mental Health Resources at Students’ and Families’ Fingertips

UC Riverside recently hosted a Family Fun Day on campus. The event provided students and their families and/or significant others an activity-filled day.

Attendees were invited to complete depression and anxiety mood screenings at the event. They were also provided with information about the counseling center services and encouraged to download the “Just in Case” mobile app that gives quick, easy access to both on and off campus resources. Nutrition workshops and health screenings held at the event gave attendees the chance to also check their physical health. Kids enjoyed the reading corner, mask painting, the bounce house and photo booth, among other activities.

Screenings like the ones provided at the Family Fun Day are important and we should encourage our loved ones to take full advantage of them. The results may help friends or family members to seek out the help they need to face their struggles with depression and/or anxiety. In 2014, let’s start or continue the conversation about mental illness to help make strides in reducing stigma.
