“A New State of Mind” Documentary Wins Audience Choice Award
In 2013, the California Mental Health Services Authority (CalMHSA) and KVIE Public Television partnered to create the documentary A New State of Mind: Ending the Stigma of Mental Illness to raise awareness of mental health challenges. This moving film has now been selected as one of two winners of the Audience Choice Award of the Council on Social Work Education’s 2015 Film Festival.
Narrated by award-winning actress and mental health advocate Glenn Close and funded by the voter-approved Mental Health Services Act (Prop. 63), this documentary follows just a few of the millions of Californians affected by mental health challenges. Their stories of hope, resilience, and recovery will change the way you think about mental illness.
Since its premiere in the spring of 2013, A New State of Mind has been seen and shared by thousands of viewers throughout California. It’s aired more than 150 times, including PBS stations in Denver, Orlando, Alaska and Hawaii – nearly 25% of all U.S. television markets.
